Venezuela has many New Year’s Eve traditions and celebrations that are very similar to other Spanish-speaking countries.  During the holiday season many parties and celebrations take place in Venezuela, and New Year’s Eve is an important holiday celebrated among Venezuelans.

Most of the traditions that take place during New Year’s Eve happen right at midnight.  Some of these include eating twelve grapes while making a wish; wrapping twelve lentils in a money bill, which is believed to bring wealth and prosperity in the new year; wearing yellow underwear; and walking around the block with a suitcase to wish for travel in the coming year.

People shoot fireworks in their native cities making for a beautiful light show.  New Year’s Eve is a very special holiday in Venezuela to be celebrated among family and friends.
